Our Model Project

The Problems and Our Solutions

Many mothers in Ethiopia face challenges in accessing affordable and quality childcare while striving for economic independence. Ye’enat Meklit aims to address these challenges with holistic solutions that empower mothers and nurture children.

  • Problem 1: Childcare and maternal postpartum care are inaccessible, unaffordable, or of poor quality for many mothers.
  • Problem 2: Unpaid care burdens women, limiting their economic and professional growth.
  • Problem 3: Women providing childcare—whether as professionals or mothers—are undercompensated in the economy.

Solution 1: Ye’enat Meklit Wellness Memberships

We offer prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care as part of a comprehensive membership for mothers and children.

Solution 2: Ye’enat Meklit Community Centers

These centers provide maternal and child healthcare services, childcare, parental training, professional skill-building, and networking opportunities for mothers

Solution 3: Ye’enat Meklit Daycares and Nannies

We train economically disadvantaged mothers to become quality nannies and operate daycares at our community centers. A web portal connects families with our services.

Our Impact

We plan to deliver our impact in phases, starting with the Legetafo community in Sheger city, Ethiopia. In the first phase, we aim to provide:

  • Quality childcare for over 600 children
  • Training and employment opportunities for over 100 economically challenged mothers
  • Freelance and startup employment for over 100 professional or entrepreneurial mothers
  • Parental and personal/professional development training for 1,000 mothers
  • Relief from hundreds of hours of unpaid care burden for working mothers

This project’s timeline is one year, and if successful, we aim to expand to 100+ communities within five years, growing the impact exponentially.

Ye’enat Meklit wants to create an ecosystem where healthy mothers build the world for their children. Healthy moms lead to healthy generations, shaping the future of society.

Our Connection to the Community (Legetafo)

Ye’enat Meklit is owned and managed by Mulu-G Health Service PLC, co-founded by Dr. Mulualem Gessesse, a leader in healthcare innovation. Dr. Mulualem lives in Legetafo with her family, deeply connecting the project to the community.

We hold a standing MoU with the Sheger City Administration for maternal and newborn care enhancement, providing over $10,000 worth of training, equipment, and referral care to the largest health center in Legetafo.

The community centers will be managed by a council of volunteer mothers, with the executive board providing monthly activity reports to ensure accountability
