Our Impact 

MoU Objectives

The MoU signed on 20/10/2015 E.C. between Mulu-G health service and Shagar city health bureau includes:

  • Training nurses on “Essential Newborn Care” from every health center in the city.
  • Training nurses as NICU nurses from every hospital in the city.
  • Establishing or upgrading “Neonatal Corners” in health centers.
  • Establishing or upgrading NICUs in hospitals.
  • Supervising, monitoring, and evaluating newborn care services in the city.

To date, we have provided essential newborn care training to 7 health centers and 1 hospital in the city. We also established a newborn corner at Legetafo health center with an integrated referral support system.

Ye’Enat Meklit Training and Discussion Sessions

Since 29/04/2023 G.C., over 100 mothers have been trained on newborn care, covering topics such as:

  • Children’s milestones and red flags
  • Breastfeeding, formula feeding, and complementary feeding
  • Preconception and conception care
  • Infantile colic, constipation, vomiting, and regurgitation
  • Sunlight exposure and immunization
  • Follow-up schedule for children
  • Sleep schedule for children
  • Bathing children
  • Diaper changing and managing diaper rash
  • Postpartum care for mothers and children

Beyond training sessions, we run a Telegram platform where mothers discuss child health concerns and continue learning.

Meklit Beneficiaries

Since March 2022, we’ve provided healthcare and financial aid to 6 mothers caring for children born with complications:

  • Two mothers were introduced through a US-based group aiding unemployed mothers.
  • Continued support includes healthcare and financial aid for mothers and children.
